On 12 September 2012 the OpenStreetMap project changed the licence for its data from CC-BY-SA-2.0 to the new Open Database License (ODbL). This license requires attribution to be attached to maps produced from OpenStreetMap data, but does not require that any particular license be applied to those maps. This template provides the required attribution. This template should be applied to all images derived from OpenStreetMap data downloaded on or after 12 September 2012; it should always appear along with some other license template that indicates the license applicable to the map itself. Map tiles provided by the OpenStreetMap project were licensed under CC-BY-SA-2.0 until 1 August 2020. After that date, the "standard map" style map tiles are licensed as OSM "produced works" only.
